CAUTION CARD AUGUST 2009
The referees of District 3 are awesome!! Through your diligent work as referees you have helped to make the spring/summer soccer season in Fort Wayne successful. You have performed excellently at all levels. This includes recreational, travel, youth tournaments, and amateur USSF games. Thank you for working so hard.
As referees we need to continue to improve. How can this be achieved?
- The Indiana State Referee Committee has an active mentor program. There have been mentors in Fort Wayne at six events this season. The mentors watch the crew of referees work a game. They then give their observations of what is being done correctly and what needs to be worked on. The mentors are there to help you improve. Listen to their suggestions. Incorporate their suggestions into your game.
- Attend clinics. You must attend a recertification each year. At this time there are three being offered in Fort Wayne. The intermediate clinic (level 7) is November 7th. The level 8 recertification clinics are November 8th and December 12th. Go to indianasrc.org to sign up for the clinic you want to attend. We also offer mini clinics during the winter months. You are strongly encouraged to attend. Dates will be announced later.
- Levels 5,6 and 7 must pass a maintenance assessment each year. Mainenance assessments must be on 90 minute games. Vlade still has amateur games which are full length games. Call Val, 750-7331, to schedule a game for your assessment. After the game has been assigned, contact Tim Geis - tgeisgator@aol.com – to schedule the assessment.
- Attend high level games. Watch referees to see how they work these games.
- Talk to your referee crew before, at half time and after the game. Ask questions, talk about the game. How can I/we improve.

Several referees from Fort Wayne went to Regionals in June. They were Andrew Bigelow, Jenny Green, Jonathan McCoy, Chad Ward. They have worked very hard to achieve this honor. I challenge to work toward this goal.
Sign ups for recreational games is Wed. Sept 2. 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM @ Fort Wayne Sport Club on Ardmore Ave.
Travel games. Please e-mail marydenton03@verizon.net the dates you are able to work. Games are on Saturdays and Sundays. Games begin in Fort Wayne September 12th.
